Want to be a plant parent, but also a pet parent? I've rounded up some great plants safe for pets, check them out & let me know if there's any I missed!

1. Rattlesnake Plant

An easy plant for beginner plant parents! Easy watering schedule, only water a few times per week. Keep this plant in low light with loose, fast draining soil. It will thrive best in 70-80 degrees, so it's safe to stick outside in the spring/summer.

2. Spider Plant

Do you end up killing all your plants? This is the plant for you! Spider plants are nearly impossible to kill. They're very low maintenance and they're a great air purifier for your home. Keep these plants in indirect sunlight, 60-80 degrees F & water only when the soil is dry (usually once a week).

3. Parlor Palm

Slow growers, but if you're patient in about a few years you'll be the proud owner of a 3-4ft tall plant. Low maintenance plant that should be kept in a cool/room temp area with evenly moist soil. Water a few times a week.

4. Ponytail Palm

A.k.a Beaucarnea Recurvata, this super easy to maintain plant will add some life to your living room. This plant only needs to be fertilized 2-3 times per year. Best to keep the soil somewhat dry, so watering is limited and not needed often.

5. Calathea Orbifolia

This plant does best in bedrooms on a plant stand. Not too much light is needed, so place them in in-direct sunlight. Keep a temperature of 60-80 degrees F with ample humidity, so either near a humidifier or spray frequently.

6. Birds Nest Fern

This plant will make the perfect addition to your bathroom! Thriving on low light, varying humidity, and best kept at 60-80 degrees. Keep them in loose fast draining soil, fertilizing monthly in the spring and summer.

7. Gloxinia

Keep this bright flowering plant near the window. They thrive in bright indirect sunlight and a temperature of 71-75 degrees F. Keep the soil moist by watering frequently.

8. Boston Fern

Another very low maintenance plant that's perfect for beginner plant parents. Requires food every 2 months. Keep these plants in a cool place with indirect light & high humidity. Pro-tip: add a tray of pebbles filled with water for added humidity. You can also keep it nearby a humidifier or frequently mist the leaves.

9. Polka Dot Plant

This plant can grow up to 3ft tall outdoors but kept inside will only grow up to about 10 inches indoors. Keep them in bright, indirect light with temps between 70-80 degrees F. Keep moderate amounts of moisture and feed once a month.

10. Watermelon Peperomia

Keep this plant out of direct sunlight. Bedrooms often are the best place for this plant. Being another low maintenance plant, you don't need to water this one too much. Check when the soil is dry which is typically once or twice every couple weeks. Watermelon Peperomia's can survive in temps as low as 65F and as high as 85F.

11. Orchid

Orchid's are a little more high maintenance than most of the plants on this list, but they're worth it! With proper care these blooms can last up to 4 months. Keep them in partial light, watering once a week - twice in the summer or dryer days. They thrive in warm humid spots - if their leaves are turning yellow, they're getting too much sun or too much water.

12. Bromeliad

Looking to add a tropical vibe to your home? Get a bromeliad! The blooms on these plants will last for a few months. They need plenty of air flow, so keep them in an open area with windows like the living room or kitchen. These plants also thrive in direct sunlight. Low maintenance watering and only need to be watered every 1-2 months. Do make sure you keep them near a humidifier or mist them often as they love humidity!

13. Baby Tears

A great match for pets & beginner plant parents! While these do require regular watering, they are otherwise low maintenance. If you're anything like me and strive on routine these are a great introduction for plants to remember to water daily. Keep in a room with filtered light with temps around 70-80F.

14. Friendship Plant

These plants can grow from 6-12 inches high. They survive in low light as long as they get a couple hours of sunlight. Can last in a range of temps from a low of 65F to a high of 85F. Water throughly in warmer temps and keep dryer in colder temps & winter.

15. Date Palm

A.k.a. Robellini Palm, these can flourish immensely indoors. Keep them in bright, indirect sunlight to liven up any room. Keep these plants slightly drier, they don't need too much water. With proper care these palms can last for years - enough to become part of the family!

16. Prayer Plant

These plants can brighten up an area really quick and are moderately easy to maintain. Keep in bright, indirect sunlight with temps between 65F and 85F. In the spring and summer you'll want to fertilize once a month to keep them happy and flourishing.

17. Herbs

Stop buying your herbs at the grocery store and grow your own! They taste so much better - trust me. Keep by the window in direct light & water regularly. Pro-tip: grab some cheap hanging pots from amazon and hang them on a tension or curtain rod in the kitchen for easy access.

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

I started this blog with the goal of offering readers a glimpse into my experiences around Boston. As someone who's always wondered "what should I do this weekend?" I wanted to create something to give ideas for just that. My experience in the hospitality industry and real estate industry have opened me up to so much that this city has to offer. Take some time to explore the blog and see for yourself. Feedback is always welcome as I'm constantly trying to improve. Read on and enjoy!
